Welcome to the Paerl Lab Website! We are located at NC State University on main campus in Jordan Hall. The lab is affiliated with the MEAS Department and focuses upon improving our current understanding of marine and aquatic microbial ecology, physiology, and biogeography.
Problems and questions related to nutrient cycling (production, assimilation, and transformation) are of particular interest – especially those related to nitrogen and vitamin cycling. Traditional (microscopy, cell culturing) and modern molecular techniques (qPCR, PCR, nucleic acid sequencing, isotopic tracing) are employed to test hypotheses in laboratory and field-based experiments.
